A Fresh Perspective

Up until this point, I’ve talked about the mental or emotional reasons we overeat and turn to food when we’re not hungry. When we listen to Head, Heart, or Habit Hunger, we’re allowing rules, emotions, or habits to guide our decision making. It feels like we have no choice in the matter until we gain awareness of those influences. But once we’re aware, the choice is up to us.

Hormone Hunger and Hypersensitivity hunger are different. In those chapters, I examine the physiological associations between hunger and our hormones. I discuss perimenopause, menopause, Insulin resistance and cortisol imbalances, and how they affect weight gain. The connect between stress and midlife is a real driver of weight gain. I also discuss the gut microbiome and how any digestive concerns can also lead to weight gain.  Hopefully, it takes a little pressure off what you may or may not be doing and puts it onto what your body is doing. How refreshing!
